Self-Love and Self-Respect Meditation
Healthy self-love is not self-importance. It is the ability to recognise your own intrinsic worth without needing to prove that you are better than anyone else. Raja Yoga meditation approaches self-love through soul consciousness: beneath roles, achievements, mistakes and other people’s opinions is a spiritual identity worthy of dignity and care.

Understanding this meditation
When self-respect is weak, the mind can become dependent on praise, reassurance or comparison. Spiritual self-respect develops when I remember that my value is deeper than today’s success or failure.
Compassion does not mean excusing everything I do. It means I can learn from mistakes without turning them into a permanent identity. I can correct myself while remaining my own friend.

A meditation you can practise now
I turn my attention away from the many roles I play and return to the simple awareness of myself.
I am the conscious being who has travelled through many experiences. I have learned, struggled, changed and continued.
I do not need to define myself by one mistake, one weakness or one person’s opinion.
I create the thought: I am a soul with qualities and potential.
I remember one quality I value in myself. Perhaps sincerity, courage, kindness, patience, determination or the willingness to learn.
I allow myself to recognise that quality without embarrassment.
Now I bring compassion to an area where I have been harsh with myself.
I can take responsibility without attacking myself. I can change without rejecting myself.
I release the habit of speaking inwardly in a way I would never speak to someone I love.
I choose dignity. I choose encouragement. I choose to become stronger through understanding rather than criticism.
From self-respect I become less dependent on approval and more able to give genuine respect to others.
